Wii Console: Comparing Nintendo Wii Against Other Consoles

Monday, February 18th, 2008
Vikram Kumar asked:

New generation gamers like you would definitely know about the seventh generation Nintendo Wii. This is the ultimate console made specifically by Nintendo. It competes with the Xbox 360 of Microsoft as well as the Playstation 3 of Sony. Based on the 2007 edition of the Financial Times magazine, the Wii Console of Nintendo has surpassed its competitors in terms of sales. The reasons for this are varied. Wii Consoles has the following features that make it different from the other consoles:

Nintendo Wii targets wider demographics than its competitors. One proof to this is that it can be enjoyed not just by young boys and girls game enthusiast but also adults.

The Wii console is the first of its kind that has a wireless controller. The Wii remote is used as a pointing device detecting three dimension movements.

The console also has what is called WiiConnect24. This feature enables the console to receive messages and updates from the Internet even when it on standby.

As the latest console of Nintendo, the Wii console is so far the smallest among the many consoles released by Nintendo. Its dimension is 44mm thick, 157mm wide, and 215mm long.

Pros and Cons of a One-stop Shop for Wii

For those who enjoy the features of Wii as well as its games, it is important for them to find a store where they can get the product and accessories. As much as possible, they want to find one-stop shop for all their Wii needs. With just one shop, they avoid hopping from one place to another just to find what they need.

The disadvantage, however, when getting Wii console and its accessories in one shop is that you never know if the prices are affordable or reasonable. Perhaps a Wii enthusiast will get what he needs but when he actually visits other stores, he discovers that the one-stop shop offers substantial price compared to others. In effect, the person may have saved time searching for the needed items for the Nintendo Wii, but he has lost money for the savings.

Searching For Nintendo Wii

Fortunately, in the Internet, there are many sites that can help you search right for the needed Nintendo Wii. You can find sites that help you make your search easier and economical. Easier because you do not have to hop from one online store to another just to get your needed item. Your search will also be economical because you will be able to compare prices of different stores in just one view. One site that offers this service is Wii Compare.

Most importantly, you will be able to compare prices from each store. With the Wii Compare, you will find which among the stores offer the most affordable price.

What do you think of Nintendo Wii release date and price?

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008
The Chancellor™ asked:

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console is out and Sony announced a release date for PlayStation 3 months ago. So the big question is, when will Wii launch? The only official answer from Nintendo is sometime before the Thanksgiving holiday in America. But sources — both on the hardware and development side — argue that the console will be hitting much sooner.

A number of big-name publishers are set to release their Wii games in mid-to-late October, which suggests that a system debut could not be that far off. And several insiders have told IGN that November 2 could, in fact, be the big day.

Thing is, not all of our contacts are in agreement on the date. Some have suggested that November 12 could, instead, by Wii’s launch date. Regardless, though, it seems that Wii fans can look forward to their console sooner rather than later.

Sources suggest that Wii will launch with a $229 price tag and will be available in both black and white.

2008 is the Year of the Wii Balance Board

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008
Martin Graf asked:

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock somewhere, chances are you’ve heard the buzz about Nintendo’s latest creation, Wii Fit. If you haven’t, here’s a brief rundown. Wii Fit is the new lifestyle product for the Wii Console that combines the fun of gaming with the benefits of exercise. The Wii was a revolution in itself in the way that it allowed users to interact with games using wireless motion sensitive controls that were fun and easy to use, appealing to both gamers and non-gamers alike. Wii Fit takes this concept one step further with the introduction of the Wii Balance Board which comes bundled with the game.

The Wii Balance Board

The Wii Balance Board looks a lot like an oversized bathroom scale but it actually contains four pressure sensors that allow it to very accurately determine a user’s weight and their position on the board. This information is sent wirelessly to the Wii Console, allowing games to interpret a whole new range of motions and provides a completely new gaming experience. Wii Fit is the first game to take advantage of the Wii Balance Board and features over forty different exercises and games including yoga, muscle workouts, aerobic exercise and balance games.

Wii Fit is an Instant Hit

Wii Fit was launched in Japan at the beginning of December 2007 and it was an immediate hit, selling almost 1.8 million copies in the first four months. It was then released in the UK on the 25th April 2008 and almost immediately topped the UK gaming charts. Within days, retailers had sold all of their initial stock allocations and it was estimated that over 200 000 copies of Wii Fit were sold within the first week. In fact, one high street chain claimed to be shifting 90 copies a minute on launch day. Wii Fit is scheduled for launch in Australia on the 8th May 2008 and in the US on the 19th.

What’s Next after Wii Fit?

There’s no denying the success of Wii Fit even before its US launch which will no doubt be massive, but I predict that ultimately it’s the Wii Balance Board that’s going to be the big hit in 2008. Wii Fit has taken Wii from being just another games console to being an actual lifestyle product that wouldn’t seem out of place in the average home and this will mean a potentially huge increase in the gaming market. As the buzz and excitement of Wii Fit dies down, many Wii Fit owners will begin to wonder what else they can do with their Wii Balance Boards, and that’s when things will really start to get interesting.

Upcoming Wii Balance Board Games

Right now (1 May 2008), Wii Fit is the only game available for the Wii Balance Board but that will definitely change in the coming months. Namco Bandai has already confirmed the release of We Ski in the US on May 13 and 2k Sports have Don King’s Prizefighter scheduled for June and the list will grow. In fact, Nintendo US COO, Reggie Fils-Aime, confirmed that over 10 games were already in development.

No other games have been confirmed but there are already rumours spreading of Nintendo snowboarding, EA Skate, Rayman Raving Rabbids and even future Mario titles. Like I said, nothing’s been confirmed but whatever the case, Wii Balance Board games are definitely going to be a big hit in 2008.
